| If I have an overhang of more than 6" on a countertop or raised bar, do I need any supports? |
Additional overhang on a countertop, typically for seating at an island, peninsula or raised bar will need added support if the overhang is greater than 12" and/or the portion of the countertop supported by the cabinet is less than two times the overhang. This means that we want at least two times the weight of the stone on the cabinet to counterbalance the portion that is unsupported. This is a general guidline. We may recommend supports for shorter overhangs do to cabinet design & layout, sink & cooktop cutouts that reduce counterweight or material that is not structurally sound. Yes, any stone that has an overhang of at least 6" on a countertop or raised bar needs to be supported by brackets. We will advise you of how many you will need and what size they need to be and different methods and styles. These brackets must be installed by you, before the installation date. |
