Installation
My neighbor has granite countertops. I noticed shims between the bottom of the granite and the cabinets. Is this normal?
Yes. Shims are used to support and level the countertop. Most cabinets are not perfectly flat. They may have a hump or sag somewhere along the top edge. Shims are used to support the stone at the sag or to make a flat surface at a seam. As you can imagine, you can not bend stone so shims are an important part of the installation.
